Talk about me babe, if you must
Throw on the dirt, pile on the dust
I'd do the same thing if I could
You know what they say, they say it's all good
All good,
It's all good

Big politician telling lies
Restaurant kitchen, all full of flies
Don't make a bit of difference, don't see why it should
But it's all right, 'cause it's all good
It's all good
It's all good

Wives are leavin' their husbands, they beginning to roam
They leave the party and they never get home
I wouldn't change it, even if I could
You know what they say man, it's all good,
It's all good
All good

Brick by brick, they tear you down
A teacup of water is enough to drown
You ought to know, if they could they would
Whatever going down, it's all good
All good
Say it's all good

People in the country, people on the land
Some of them so sick, they can hardly stand
Everybody would move away, if they could
It's hard to believe but it's all good

The widow's cry, the orphan's plea
Everywhere you look, more misery
Come along with me, babe, I wish you would
You know what I'm sayin', it's all good
All good
I said it's all good
All good

Cold-blooded killer, stalking the town
Cop cars blinking, something bad going down
Buildings are crumbling in the neighborhood
But there's nothing to worry about, 'cause it's all good
It's all good
They say it's all good

I'll pluck off your beard and blow it in your face
This time tomorrow I'll be rolling in your place
I wouldn't change a thing even if I could
You know what they say, they say it's all good
It's all good

It's All Good

Yah I know, it looks like a real mess. The world and personal events hit us broadside and we see nothing of purpose in them. But God, he knows how to do things far beyond our ability to comprehend. Not just the big, awesome, powerful things; but God is so amazing he can take a very bad circumstance and turn it around and work good, amazing good, out of it. We can try, but we fall short as far as any ultimate and eternal good is concerned. Only God can do that. But he may want to do it through us, too.

So, practical good can occur in the here and now. We can see things bad and turn them to good. We can see people suffering and give or lend a hand. We can bring good out of it. Look at the opportunity, bad at first, and realize what good thing can occur. Not only can you make something bad good, but you can take what looks bad at first and defeat the bad as you make the outcome good. So, in that sense, it was all good in the first place. You saw the opportunity and you brought a good out of it that would otherwise not have occurred. It was all good.

Even suffering brings about good that could not have happened any other way. God can even take our distress or weakness or need and not just work good out of it in spite of it, but actually because of it. Only God can do that.

God is not limited to anything in this world. Try to think that way. It's all true. God is Love. Love can do amazing things that would otherwise not have occurred, all the while knowing the bad will be worked out to an ultimate good not possible without it. So, again, it's all good viewed through the lens of truth.

Now there can be another side to interpreting this song. Death itself is a just consequence of sin. The only solution is the Deliverer, Jesus. and people who love him and who carry with their acts of love the message of Jesus. There are so many Scriptures to support this truth that I would simply say read the Bible and they will be borne out in almost no time at all. It's all good.

"But still," you may ask, "just look at the words! Bob is singing the part of a guy who sees bad things and calls them good! After all, didn't you say you wanted to stick with the clear, intended meaning of Bob's words and let them speak for themselves?" So I did. But you know Bob. He sometimes does things like that. He sarcastically said at the end of Property Of Jesus (next) that the one with a heart of stone had something better than the one who had Jesus. Obviously that is not true, Bob knows it, and I would say so do you. He was parroting the heart of the unbeliever. How 'bout Bob in this song simply reflecting the way people, in their sinfulness, often are? They see the bad, ignore it, and rationalize it as something they can't do anything about anyway. They think they have justified their conscience in such a pitiful way they might as well have said the bad they were witnessing was some kind of good after all. "I'm not going to make myself a part of it, and that's ok! In fact, it's all good with me!"

Hell will be all good, too. It will be sure justice, which is always good. Still, it is not too late. A human heart can be softened and saved by Jesus Christ and flooded with the love of God.

When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “What if Joseph bears a grudge and wants to repay us in full for all the harm we did to him?” So they sent word to Joseph, saying, “Your father gave these instructions before he died: ‘Tell Joseph this: Please forgive the sin of your brothers and the wrong they did when they treated you so badly.’ Now please forgive the sin of the servants of the God of your father.” When this message was reported to him, Joseph wept. Then his brothers also came and threw themselves down before him; they said, “Here we are; we are your slaves.” But Joseph answered them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? As for you, you meant to harm me, but God intended it for a good purpose, so he could preserve the lives of many people, as you can see this day. So now, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your little children.” Then he consoled them and spoke kindly to them.

Genesis 50:15-21

You squeeze me in from behind and in front;
you place your hand on me.
Your knowledge is beyond my comprehension;
it is so far beyond me, I am unable to fathom it.
Where can I go to escape your spirit?
Where can I flee to escape your presence?
If I were to ascend to heaven, you would be there.
If I were to sprawl out in Sheol, there you would be.
If I were to fly away on the wings of the dawn,
and settle down on the other side of the sea,
even there your hand would guide me,
your right hand would grab hold of me.
If I were to say, “Certainly the darkness will cover me,
and the light will turn to night all around me,”
even the darkness is not too dark for you to see,
and the night is as bright as day;
darkness and light are the same to you.

Psalm 139:5-12

Those who call evil good and good evil are as good as dead,
who turn darkness into light and light into darkness,
who turn bitter into sweet and sweet into bitter.
Those who think they are wise are as good as dead,
those who think they possess understanding.
Those who are champions at drinking wine are as good as dead,
who display great courage when mixing strong drinks.
They pronounce the guilty innocent for a payoff,
they ignore the just cause of the innocent.
Therefore, as flaming fire devours straw,
and dry grass disintegrates in the flames,
so their root will rot, and their flower will blow away like dust.
For they have rejected the law of the Lord who commands armies,
they have spurned the commands of the Holy One of Israel.
So the Lord is furious with his people;
he lifts his hand and strikes them.
The mountains shake,
and corpses lie like manure in the middle of the streets.
Despite all this, his anger does not subside,
and his hand is ready to strike again.

Isaiah 5:20-25

‘Oh, Lord God, you did indeed make heaven and earth by your mighty power and great strength. Nothing is too hard for you!’

“I am the Lord, the God of all humankind. There is, indeed, nothing too difficult for me.”

Jeremiah 32:17, 27

And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. (For rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person perhaps someone might possibly dare to die.) But God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:5-8

And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose, because those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; and those he called, he also justified; and those he justified, he also glorified. What then shall we say about these things?
If God is for us, who can be against us? Indeed, he who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all – how will he not also, along with him, freely give us all things?

Romans 8:28-32

I asked the Lord three times about this, that it would depart from me. But he said to me, “My grace is enough for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” So then, I will boast most gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may reside in me. Therefore I am content with weaknesses, with insults, with troubles, with persecutions and difficulties for the sake of Christ, for whenever I am weak, then I am strong.

II Corinthians 12:8-10
